While most players on the Gauchos are working out at local gyms at home or going and hanging out with high school friends, these overachievers are competing in European Championships, Nike Tournaments, and the SF Bay Basketball League.
Gaucho Sophomore Center Greg Somogyi, a native of Hungary, is competing in the U20 European Championships. Competing against the best 20 year olds of Europe in Skopje, Macedonia, Somogyi has averaged 7.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg, and 3 bpg. Against the Slovak Republic, Greg had 10 points, 6 blocks, and 5 rebounds.
The two swing man sophomores for the Gauchos, James Nunnally and Orlando Johnson, have been competing in the prestigious San Francisco Bay Area Pro-Am League. Orlando has had averages of 25.9 ppg, 3.5 rpg, and 2.5 spg. Former Gaucho Alex Harris (Class of 2008, All-Time Leading Scorer in UCSB History) has also been competing in the league.
The last two Gauchos competing in summer basketball are LA natives James Powell and Jaime Serna. They have been competing in the highly touted Nike Rod Smith Say No Classic.
This can only mean good things for the Gauchos main players next season!
