With anticipation high on the 2009-2010 Men's Basketball season, fans will now be able to find out when the Gauchos will be on the tube. The first of four possible conference games televised, the Gauchos will host Northern Cal rival UC Davis at The Thunderdome on January 7th, 2010 at 8 p.m. Then on September 30th, one game from Big West match ups with UCSB at. Cal State Northridge being one of them. The game would air at 5 p.m. on ESPN2. Then in the Battle of the Beach, Long Beach State comes from the hood to take on our Santa Barbara ballers at 4 p.m., Saturday, February 13th on FSN Prime Ticket. The last possible match up on the home entertainment screen will be on February 24th at 7:30 p.m. on FSN West. We hope we get all four possible match ups and other games that could be televised are at Arizona State, at Cal-Berkeley, or vs. San Diego State

#7 UCSB Mens Soccer vs. U17 Mexico National Team (Exhibition)
With the crowd of 8,425 fans favoring Mexico and the game feeling more like USA vs. Mexico, UCSB rallied from behind to win 2-1 over the Mexican nationals.
The first goal came in a Mexican dominated 1st half by Daniel Guzman who put the ball past Gaucho goalie Trond Helge Takset. Mexico out shot the Gauchos 12-5 in the first.
UCSB finally answered early in the second half when Peter McGlynn scorched the equalizer past the Mexican goalie in the 49th minute.
With a tie at the end of the game, that meant overtime. With the first 20 minutes of the overtime a stale mate, UCSB ended the match with my dad wanting to go home on a corner kick by Hispanic native Danny Barrera to Joe Eubanks who put it in for the game winner.
After the biggest turn out of the year so far, two fans stormed the field. My friend Jackson and of course, Me!

UCSB Gauchos New Website
There have been a lot of changes since Mark Massari has been Athletic Director at UCSB and he just pulled another nifty, cool enhancement with the all new, multimedia website. The website has drop down windows which show schedules, each team, tickets, multimedia gadgets, and much more. At the top are quick buttons to get to the Gauchos' Facebook page, Twitter, Gametracker, UCSB's YouTube page, and more. The new main screen has pictures of the latest news that range across the screen and at the bottom little boxes which lead you to the AD Report, GKids forms, Soccer Town USA, etc... This new website will allow the Gauchos fans to have a better interactive experience.

Rutgers vs. #4 UCSB Mens Soccer
In front of a season high crowd of 3,925 fans and a National TV audience, the Gauchos showed those Jersey boys how we play soccer by beating them 4-0. That was the 4th straight win for the Gauchos and the third straight vs. a Big East Conference opponent.
The first blow came in the 18th minute when Michael Nonni's shot was deflected by Scarlet Knights goalie Jake Grenkevich to David Walkers foot for the 1-0 lead.
A few minutes later in the 28th minute, part of the 1-2 Ghana player punch, Waid Ibrahim's corner kick was deflected by the Rutgers goalie and went off the crossbar and Gauchos goalie Michael Tetteh kicked it in the goal for the 2-0 lead.
Then ten minutes later, Michael Tetteh sent in a corner kick which went to the completely unguarded Martin Hedevag which scored his third goal with his head this year.
With the blowout already at hand, Michael Tetteh made sure it got even uglier. Right in front of my seat, Michael Tetteh used some of the most amazing footwork my thirteen year old eyes have ever seen and then passed it to Michael Nonni who headed it into the goal for the 4-0 lead.
The Gauchos out shot the Scarlet Knights 12-5 and 7-2 on goal.
On Sunday night the Gauchos take on Loyola Marymount at 6:30 p.m.

Walker receives recognition, Gauchos move up in rankings
After a successful week where the Gauchos went 3-0-0, they moved up to #4 in the Top Drawer Soccer (TDS) poll and #7 in the Soccer America poll.
Senior forward David Walker got some serious recognition by being named to the TDS Team of the Week! During the week, Walker recorded three goals, nine shots with seven of them being on target. He also was named the MVP of the West Virginia University/Nike Classic Tournament.
The Gauchos look to keep rolling Friday night vs. Rutgers at 8:00 p.m. on Fox Soccer Channel.

West Virginia University Nike Classic Round Up
After winning their season opener vs the cup cake opponent of the year, the Gauchos traveled to Morgantown, W. Va. to take on West Virginia and Pittsburgh.
In a game where West Virginia set a school record for a attendance, UCSB spoiled the big celebration winning 2-0. Waid Ibrahim scored in the 15th minute. Then in the 65th minute, Gaucho senior David Walker scored on a pass from Martin Hedevag. The Mountaineers never recovered and fell to 0-1-0 while the Gauchos improved to 2-0-0.
In the rubber match up on an early September day, the Gauchos took the field vs the Panthers of Pittsburgh. With the crowd at a dismal 207, the few fans really got a show. The Panthers struck first with a goal by Ryan Brode in the 7th minute. With an answer at need, David Walker provided that with a shot to the far post which tied the game at 1 a piece. Then in the 38th minute, Pitt got back on top with a goal from Mike McDade. Then early in the second half, Danny Berrea put it in the back of the net. With the score 2-2 and late in the game, Pitt got another goal. This one came from the foot of Mike McDade to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead in the 81st minute. With time running out and hope slipping away, David Walker tied the game with a goal in the 87th minute which forced overtime. Then in the 110th minute, Danny Berrea sent in a cross which found Martin Hedevag's head which put the ball in the goal. The Gauchos won 4-3 in dramatic fashion.
Next up for the Gauchos are two home games at Harder Stadium. They will play Rutgers on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on Fox Soccer Channel. Then on Sunday night at 6:30 p.m., the Gauchos take on the Lions of Loyola Marymount!

Cal State Bakersfield vs. #10 UCSB Mens Soccer
With the start of a new season in the air, the tenth ranked Gauchos defeated their in state opponent 3-1.
The Gauchos started off with a bang by scoring in the 6th minute. On a corner kick, the Gauchos Danny Berrea's kick reached super sophomore Luis Silva who headed the ball towards Michael Nonni who used his noggin to pass it to Martin Hedevag for the goal.
In the tenth minute, dazzling footwork and super ball handling skills by Silva resulted in a stellar pass with the heel of his foot to Danny Berrea. Berrea passed it to the freshman striker Nonni who deposited it at the back of the net.
With the Gauchos out shooting the Roadrunners 17-3 in the game, it looked like this was going to be a blow out. Then, the Bakersfield footballers got good acting from there drama majors which resulted with a penalty kick. Oscar Coppieters then kicked it in the top right part of the goal, slightly kicking it past the Gaucho goalie for the goal which made the score 2-1.
Most of the second half was a stale mate until Michael Nonni dribbled it past the Bakersfield goalie to make it 3-1. This was Nonni's second of the game and in the exhibition vs. Westmont, he scored two goals in his debut.
UCSB is now 2-0-0 vs. CSU Bakersfield. The loss drops the Roadrunners to 0-1-0. The Gauchos now hit the road for the West Virginia University/Nike Classic in Morgantown, W. Va. They will play the Mountaineers of West Virginia on Friday at 5 p.m. PT. They will then play West Virginia's Backyard Brawl rivals, Pittsburgh, on Sunday at 8 a.m PT.
